On a recent kayaking tour, we came across a dolphin strand feeding! This is only found in specific areas of the world where the Tamanend's bottlenose dolphin lives. Believe it or not, this species was only "discovered" in September of 2023! Our Tamanend's dolphins have a specialized skull and backbone to help them feed in the relatively shallow waters of the Kiawah River; while there are multiple ways our dolphin population keeps themselves fed, strand feeding is definitely one of the coolest.
