The vast, remote, and extreme nature of the deep water column makes it a challenging habitat to explore, so what lives there is largely a mystery and surprises are frequent... In 2019, this giant squid, at least 3 meters (approximately 10 feet) in length, was seen in the midnight (bathypelagic) zone at a depth of 759 meters (2,490 feet).
