Oct 29, 2024 · Assuming limiting the Studio to the 64 GB RAM maximum of the M4 Pro mini the M2 Max will probably still outperform on most usages. Appropriately equip an M2 Max Studio with 96 GB RAM and any Mac mini will be less good in an all-day workflow. The exceptions will be with things that benefit from hardware support of ray tracing and the like.

6 days ago · 2024 Mac Mini M4 Pro has the highest max power consumption of any previous Mac Mini at 140W and in a smaller chassis so high fan noise is not surprising. Wonder what decisions drove them to a smaller chassis when it makes more common sense to go with larger heat sink in a larger chassis to keep fan noise minimal.

Sep 8, 2024 · My wife has an M1 Mac Mini that she enjoys. My workload is slightly heavier than hers, but still mostly fairly light. I've heard rumors that the M4 Mac Minis will finally ship with 16GB of RAM in the base config. I'm guessing they'll still have 256GB SSD. The alternative would be a used M2 Pro with 16GB/512GB.

Nov 9, 2023 · Tough choice deciding to wait for the M3 Pro Mac Mini, since it seems like the M3 Pro is not a huge bump up from the M2 Pro, though the standard M3 Pro in the Mac Mini may come with 11 Cores and offer better CPU performance (almost like getting the $300 12 core M2 Pro upgrade for free).

I also have two LaCie 4TB, one on the 2023 Mac mini pro and the other on the 2014 iMac, and both are silent, one used as Time Machine, the other holding large files for photos, music, and so forth.
