The Guardians did not come out swinging at all in the three-game set with the Rangers. They were shut out in the last two games of the weekend and scored just three runs in the series. According to FanGraphs, the Guardians now have a 4.7% chance of making the playoffs as of August 25.

The win — paced by right-hander Merrill Kelly’s best start yet for the Rangers — clinched the club’s first sweep since they won six-straight vs. the Athletics and Atlanta Braves between July 21-27. The Rangers, at .500 once again with a 66-66 record, still trail the Seattle Mariners for the final Wild Card berth by four games.

Rowdy Tellez and Joc Pederson homered, and Merrill Kelly earned his first win with Texas by pitching seven terrific innings as the Rangers beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-0 on Sunday to sweep their three-game series.
