The Minnesota Vikings have shaken up their depth behind starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy, signing Carson Wentz and trading backup Sam Howell to the Philadelphia Eagles, multiple sources said Sunday.

Sam Howell is on the move once again, as the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles agreed to a trade that sends the fourth-year quarterback to Philly along with a sixth round pick, with the Eagles sending a fifth and seventh rounder in return.

Wentz, 32, will serve as backup to starter J.J. McCarthy in Minnesota for the 2025 season. Wentz last played for the Rams in '23 and the Chiefs in '24. The Vikings will be his sixth NFL team since he was drafted by the Eagles in '16.
