The judge declared a mistrial on the remaining charges that the jury could have considered, as they remained “hopelessly deadlocked.”

Attorneys in the case are expected to present closing arguments Thursday, after which the jury will begin deliberations.

Valle, then 16, fatally stabbed 17-year-old James McGrath, 17, outside a house party in Shelton, but the jury found he acted in self-defense.
