Temporary Protected Status was never meant to last a quarter of a century,' the Department of Homeland Security said in a statement.

The decision by the Homeland Security Department to end protections for migrants from those countries goes into effect in about two months.

The move comes after a federal judge in New York last week blocked the Trump administration from ending temporary legal status for more than 500,000 Haitians living in the United States.
