On the favorability front, 49% said they have a very or somewhat unfavorable opinion of Democrat Troy Jackson, with 41% saying very or somewhat favorable.
The Republican senator is pushing back on a reported Trump administration effort to increase political oversight of NIH grants.
The senator’s office has “vigorously” denied any wrongdoing, while Collins’ opponent Troy Jackson called the report “corruption of the highest order.”
