Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday backed a proposal by President Donald Trump to relocate Palestinians from Gaza and turn the war-ravaged coastal enclave into a luxury waterfront development—a plan that has drawn international condemnation and could further complicate fragile cease-fire talks between Israel and Hamas.

Trump has largely focused on expanding the Abraham Accords, an agreement in his first term that led to normalization of relations between Israel and some Arab nations. He's also proposed a relocation plan for Gaza's two million Palestinians, which Netanyahu endorsed at the time.

Trump has been pushing Netanyahu with increasing urgency for a truce in Gaza between Israel and Hamas, which he hoped to clinch “this week”. When asked about a possible deal, the US president said the negotiations were going well. “I don’t think there’s a hold-up,” he said.
