Republicans in the Texas Senate approved a map backed by President Donald Trump that would give the GOP up to five more U.S. House seats in the midterms.

Senate voted to approve a controversial, mid-decade redistricting bill that redraws the state’s congressional map in Republican’s favor. The new districts could give the GOP as many as five more seats in Congress after the 2026 midterm elections.

If everything goes Democrats’ way, Trump’s demands for five seats in Texas to mitigate losses elsewhere may not materialize.
