Restaurants in Washington, D.C., have experienced a sharp decline in reservations and foot traffic after President Donald Trump announced a federal takeover of the Metropolitan Police Department and mobilized National Guard troops in the city.

Michael Sullivan was just settling into his role as chief of the Capitol Police when President Donald Trump shined a bright light on law enforcement in the nation’s capital. Trump’s move to exert emergency powers over local police and deploy the National Guard has been felt throughout the District, as Sullivan can attest.

Nearly 400 arrests have been made since President Donald Trump declared a public safety emergency in the District and activated National Guard troops to assist local law enforcement, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi.
