FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — A resident of northern Arizona has died from pneumonic plague, health officials said Friday. Plague is rare to humans, with on average about seven cases reported annually in the U.S., most of them in the western states, according to federal health officials.

The plane had flown to San Diego from Phoenix the day before and was heading back to Phoenix when the crash occurred. Shaffen Woods, a friend of Jeremy Bingham and former football coach of Ayden, previously told The Arizona Republic the San Diego trip was part of an excursion the Bingham family often took to create new memories.

The 17-year-old Boenning has been coming to San Diego since he was 13 to compete in one of the world’s most famous junior tournaments, and is well aware that the list of past winners includes Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, Jason Day and Lorena Ochoa.
