Ellie Sheehan, a marketing student from Hollidaysburg, PA, becomes Penn State Blue Band's first female drum major, marking another milestone for the band.

The Penn State Blue Band has been performing for more than 125 years. All of the Drum Majors leading the band each season have been men, until now.

For the first time in its 125-year history, Penn State's Blue Band will have a female drum major, as Ellie Sheehan, a fifth-year marketing student, steps into the role for the 2025-26 season.

The Penn State drum major is known for the forward flip – which is part of every pre-game show. The band’s post says in its 125-year history, no woman has held the drum major position.
