By Eli Tan Reporting from San Francisco A year ago, Instagram made sweeping changes to the account settings of its teenage users after growing scrutiny from parents and lawmakers over child safety issues.

Meta says teenagers on Instagram will be restricted to seeing PG-13 content by default and won’t be able to change their settings without a parent’s permission

Instagram will limit what users under 18 can see on the platform using filters inspired by the PG-13 movie rating system, in the latest step by its parent Meta to address criticism that it has not done enough to protect teenagers online.

Instagram users under 18 will now by default only see content that adheres to PG-13 ratings applied to movies, avoiding themes like extreme violence, sexual nudity, and graphic drug use.
