Page files can greatly affect the performance and recovery of Windows and Windows servers. Here's how to size page files to suit your computing needs.
Computer and data security should always be a priority. A simple tweak of the Windows 11 Registry file can eliminate one often overlooked security concern—the page file.
Since its earliest days, Windows has used a page file (sometimes called a paging file*), a hidden file in the root of the system drive that caches pages of memory so they can be accessed quickly.
If you're getting white or black screens, lockups, out-of-memory errors, or extension crashes in your browser, your page file settings may be the issue.
In addition to the new Start Menu and taskbar design overhauls, Windows 11 also comes with a new File Explorer and Settings app.
If Windows has created a temporary Paging file on your computer, execute the solutions mentioned in this post to address the issue.
