The Texans are expected to keep both rookie Jaylen Reed and veteran C.J. Gardner-Johnson on the active roster to begin the regular season. Ward, who signed with the Texans in the 2023 offseason after DeMeco Ryans was hired in the offseason, is currently under contract through 2025 after inking a one-year deal during the middle of last season.

The NFL placed Houston Texans safety Jimmie Ward on the Commissioner’s Exempt List, according to multiple reports Tuesday. Ward will not be allowed to attend any practices, meetings or games while on the list. Ward, 34, was arrested Aug. 7 on a felony warrant in Texas, following a June arrest in which he was charged with felony family assault.

Jimmie Ward may not practice or attend games while on the exempt list, which is controlled by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
