The win — paced by right-hander Merrill Kelly’s best start yet for the Rangers — clinched the club’s first sweep since they won six-straight vs. the Athletics and Atlanta Braves between July 21-27. The Rangers, at .500 once again with a 66-66 record, still trail the Seattle Mariners for the final Wild Card berth by four games.

The Texas Rangers scored five runs while the Cleveland Guardians scored zero runs. These Rangers are as confounding as ever. Fresh off a demoralizing road trip that seemed to finally tamp down the dirt upon their grave, Texas procured a sweep of the team that came to Arlington directly ahead of them in the Wild Card standings.

The Guardians did not come out swinging at all in the three-game set with the Rangers. They were shut out in the last two games of the weekend and scored just three runs in the series. According to FanGraphs, the Guardians now have a 4.7% chance of making the playoffs as of August 25.
