The first dreams of supersonic air travel were crushed by annoyed Oklahoma City residents in the 1960s. Decades later, it could now be viable.

SpaceX stunned onlookers when it returned a Super Heavy booster to a precise landing at its launchpad. But the resulting sonic boom may spark community concerns.

The boom appears to be linked to a SpaceX Dragon capsule reentering the atmosphere, according to a post on X from SpaceX.

Boom Supersonic says the company's XB-1 aircraft achieved supersonic flight without an audible sonic boom on the ground below.
