Every winter, anglers fishing at Lake Roosevelt will catch some trophy-sized kokanee, fish that are measured in pounds rather than inches.

Kokanee fishing on Lake Roosevelt has been best from Keller Ferry down to Grand Coulee Dam. The rainbow fishing has been good. Most trout in this section run 18 to 21 inches.

She added that the recent sturgeon fishing closure on the Columbia River between the Dalles Dam and Priest Rapids Dam illustrate the reasoning behind shifting Lake Roosevelt to a fall season.

The Lake Roosevelt sturgeon fishery is currently closed to fishing by permanent rule. Now, rule changes would open Roosevelt to a fishing season of September 16 - November 30.

A long-running program has breathed life back into Lake Roosevelt's sturgeon population in Washington state.
