Such is the latest cut in the Panthers’ crowded receiver room, which theoretically has eight players vying for five to seven spots. Those eight: Tetairoa McMillan, Xavier Legette, Adam Thielen, Jalen Coker, Hunter Renfrow, Jimmy Horn Jr., David Moore and Brycen Tremayne. Rookie Jacolby George was cut Monday, too.

Now, along with combing through the waiver wire, the Panthers will have to assemble their first practice squad of the campaign. Practice squads are essentially pools of insurance talent for NFL teams—who can secure additional depth for practice sessions, scout work and regular-season games throughout the year.

The Carolina Panthers reeled in a pair of players off the waiver wire on Wednesday. As announced this afternoon, the Panthers have been awarded the rights to cornerback Damarri Mathis and wide receiver Dalevon Campbell.
