Two people died when huge rocks fell on their vehicle in Guatemala, after dozens of earthquakes were recorded in a matter of hours, authorities said. The two men killed were traveling in a pickup truck on a local road in the department of Escuintla Tuesday when the rocks fell from a hillside onto the vehicle, firefighters said.

A moderately strong, 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck in Guatemala on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The temblor happened at 3:41 p.m. Central time about 10 miles southwest of Guatemala City, data from the agency shows. U.S.G.S. data earlier reported that the magnitude was 5.6.

The tremors resulted in the evacuation of buildings and landslides, officials said, adding they were felt as far away as El Salvador. View on euronews
