One of the first stories I wrote for the Globe was about the Red Sox giving a tryout to a mysterious lefthanded fireballer from Cuba named Aroldis Chapman in 2009. Chapman was 21 at the time and had established residence in Andorra after defecting from Cuba during a tournament in the Netherlands.

Aroldis Chapman stepped up in the final inning as a reliever to help the Red Sox take down the Yankees 1-0 on Friday night.

And according to MLB Insider Francys Romero, Chapman has made some personal history over the last nine games. Aroldis Chapman leads all relievers in ERA across MLB with a 1.15 mark. For the first time in his MLB career, he has 9 consecutive games without allowing a hit.
